One of the quilts I am working on at the moment is this one called "The House Finch"  I am using the fabrics I mentioned way back  in this post, they include linens, liberty prints, french ticking, spots, dots and florals in reds, beige, cream, tan and taupe. My client also asked if I would include some doilies which are family heirloom's in the quilt. They are truly beautiful, some were still pined in their original box.

I thought it was such a lovely idea to use them this way rather then leave them to collect dust in a cupboard. I decided to incorporate them into the block design and cut them to the exact size of the other squares/rectangles in the quilt.  Rather then sewing them whole and uncut on top of the patchwork. Hopefully I will avoid the quilt looking  hmmm a little to "old fashioned", opting for more of a  contemporary french farmhouse appeal.

How do you bring yourself to part with these beauties? I think I'd want to keep each and everyone of them for myself.
